Entering 2025, it’s a perfect time to individually reflect on our health and set aspirations for the year ahead. You don’t need a new you, we are not dispensing of your individual self. More so, find the old you and improve, evolve and do better. For your short term and long term benefit.

As your General Practitioner (GP), I’m here to help guide you toward a healthier lifestyle. As discussed in my previous blog, wellness is supposed to be individual and motivated. It is not right if it feels pressured and shameful.

The new year brings an opportunity for fresh starts, and what better way to kick off 2025 than by focusing on small, achievable health goals?

Here are some ideas:First, prioritise regular movement. Whether it’s a daily walk or joining a fitness class, staying active can help boost your mood, energy, and overall well-being. If it’s in natural day light it’s even better for your mood and sleep.

Second, make sure your diet is balanced. Eating well is not always necessarily more expensive. You could start with incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and try to reduce processed foods and sugary drinks, including alcohol. In fact, processed foods and take aways are often more expensive.

Don’t forget about your mental health. Practice mindfulness and make time for relaxation and hobbies you enjoy. These help mental wealth with gratitude and community which is as important as physical health!

Regular check-ups are essential for early detection of potential health concerns. So many people don’t respond to screening calls for cervical smear, mammogram or a poo FIT test and these are valuable opportunities missed. These screening programmes exist for the reason that there is a need to be aware. For other checks there can be alternatives, such as a blood pressure check in a pharmacy or a wellness check at a gym. So, take a moment to understand your NORMAL so if you have symptoms then you know to seek medical advice.

Remember, small changes can lead to big improvements. Stay committed, stay patient, and know that I’m here to support you. Here’s to a healthy, happy new year!
